about the artwork
The artwork is part of a series on afterimages. The artist interprets them as memories and patches that become imprinted in our minds, leaving only an impression rather than a concrete record of the landscape. She seeks to explore the relationship between a patch of color and a line. She treats them as vanishing landscapes that she must capture on the canvas very quickly before they fade away completely. “An attempt to reconstruct movement
on the plane of the canvas causes the image (…) to become a purely visual phenomenon, an optical phenomenon in two senses: as something intended solely for viewing, but also as a process of viewing itself.” She draws on memories of her travels, the long hours spent on trains, and the images that remain with her afterward. She combines this approach to creation with a strong accent drawn directly from the walls of apartment blocks. She creates dissonance and juxtaposes two worlds, giving them a new narrative.
