about the artwork

The painting depicts two sailboats traversing a vast, colorful expanse of sea. In the foreground, a larger sailboat dominates the scene with its vivid red hull and bright, glowing sails. In the distance, a second, smaller vessel is visible, introducing a sense of depth, space, and a boundless horizon into the composition.

The work stands out for its expressive color palette, in which cool turquoises, blues, and grays intermingle with warm shades of red, pink, and orange. The sky and the sea seem to merge into a single space pulsating with energy, creating an atmosphere of mystery and constant motion.

Free-flowing brushstrokes, dynamic lines, and blurred patches of color lend the composition a sense of lightness, spontaneity, and an almost abstract character. The bold, black outlines of the masts and rigging contrast with the soft color transitions, emphasizing the structure of the sailing ships.

The symbolism of the painting is rooted in the ideas of freedom, travel, and the search for one’s own path. The sailing ship becomes a metaphor for a person who, despite uncertainty and changing conditions, does not abandon the chosen course. The red hull symbolizes passion, courage, and energy, while the open expanse of the sea represents endless possibilities, dreams, and new experiences.

The two sailing ships can also be interpreted as two independent destinies that, though heading in the same direction, are each on their own unique journeys.

This work combines marine painting with expressive abstraction. Its power lies in the freedom of form, the emotional impact of color, and the atmosphere of boundless space.

“W stronę wolności” is a story about the courage to follow one’s dreams, about discovering the world, and about how the most important thing on a journey is not the destination itself, but the path we choose.
