about the artwork

Deep in the ocean, this expressive, dynamic composition depicts a majestic whale that seems to glide effortlessly through the boundless expanse of the ocean. Its powerful yet remarkably harmonious silhouette conveys tranquility, freedom, and the extraordinary power of nature.

The focal point of the painting is a monumental humpback whale, whose body is built up with bold, decisive strokes of the palette knife. Distinctive lines, contrasting planes, and irregular textures highlight the animal’s anatomy, giving it an almost sculptural quality. Despite its enormous size, the whale appears light, as if floating in a gravity-free space.

The composition is distinguished by its exceptionally intense color palette. Deep turquoises, navies, and steel blues that form the whale’s silhouette contrast with vibrant shades of coral, red, pink, and warm orange. This unconventional color combination gives the work a modern, almost surreal character.

The rich, three-dimensional texture of the paint applied with a palette knife will play the most important role in the planned painting. Thick layers, broad strokes, and bold painterly gestures will emphasize the whale’s monumental presence and the dynamism of the surrounding space. Tool marks, color breaks, and expressive textures will give the canvas’s surface depth and unique expressiveness.

The abstract background, devoid of traditional depictions of the underwater world, allows the viewer to focus their attention on the animal itself. Intense reds and oranges may evoke the energy of life, while cool blues symbolize the vastness of the ocean, mystery, and tranquility.

The whale becomes a symbol of freedom, wisdom, inner strength, and harmony with nature. Its calm movement reminds us that true power does not always have to manifest itself through violence. Sometimes the greatest strength lies in gentleness, patience, and the ability to follow one’s own path.

The painting can also be interpreted as a metaphor for a person’s journey into their inner self. The ocean symbolizes the unknown realms of emotions, memories, and dreams, while the whale represents the courage to explore them and the acceptance of one’s own nature.

The work combines figurative painting with contemporary expressive abstraction, in which color, movement, and the texture of the paint become just as important as the depicted subject. It is a story of freedom, peace, and the extraordinary strength hidden in nature. It is about following one’s own rhythm, exploring the unknown, and finding harmony even in boundless space.

The painting is currently in the process of being created. The work is created using both traditional and my own techniques, incorporating the broad palette knife strokes, intense color contrasts, and rich, almost sculptural texture of paint that are characteristic of my work.
